Part 1

IELTS Speaking Part 1: Colours, mood & pets

A 5-minute interview on familiar subjects. The examiner works through short questions about your life, and answers of two or three sentences are usually the right length — long enough to show range, short enough to keep the exchange moving.

The questions

  1. Do you think colours can affect your mood?
  2. Do you have a favourite colour to wear?
  3. What kinds of pets are popular in your country?
  4. Would you like to have a pet in the future?

What is being marked

Every part of the test is scored on the same four criteria, each carrying equal weight in the final band.

Practise this one out loud

Reading a cue card is not the same as speaking for two minutes under timing. Take it with an AI examiner that responds to what you actually say, then get a band estimate and the specific sentences that held you back.
