IELTS Speaking Part 3: Work & Career

A 5-minute discussion that widens the Part 2 topic into abstract territory. The examiner is looking for opinions with reasons behind them, and will push back to see whether you can develop or defend a position.

The questions

  1. How is the nature of work changing in modern society?
  2. Do you think work-life balance is achievable?
  3. What skills will be most important in the future job market?
  4. Is it better to specialize in one area or have a broad range of skills?

What is being marked

Every part of the test is scored on the same four criteria, each carrying equal weight in the final band.
